8-year-old causes $5,000 worth of damage by falling into koi pond, Mom demands pond owner pay son's medical bills: 'He's just a kid'

Just one bad neighbor can easily spoil your living situation. Just ask this dude, whose neighbor not only damaged his property, but is trying to get him to pay for it!

This guy has a koi pond, a lovely addition to any home. I love to see those giant oversized fish peacefully swimming around. The orange, white, or black koi fish often swim up to see anyone who walks by in order to get some fish food. Having koi fish is a way bigger responsibility than being a goldfish owner. As this guy shares, some of his fish cost up to $1,000 per fish! That's more than some fancy dog breeds cost, and this guy has numerous fish swimming around in his backyard. 

He now finds himself in quite a predicament. His young neighbor climbed over the fence, tried to feed the fish, and ended up falling into the pond himself. Some places require owners to have a fence around their pools, but does the same apply to a koi pond? Well, this guy is going to find out, because those expensive fish were harmed by this kid's actions. The child is lucky he wasn't harmed, but his mom's request for money is infuriating for this homeowner. Not only were his koi fish taken from him, but now he's expected to pay medical bills? Let's hope that this guy gets a good lawyer who can protect him from this Mom's outlandish demands.

    Luckily, Timmy wasn't seriously hurt-just a few scrapes-but Karen has been demanding I pay for his medical bills. She claims my pond is an "attractive nuisance" and that I should've had a cover or something to prevent kids from falling in. I argued that (1) it's a private, fenced property, and (2) her son had no business being there in the first place.

    When I refused to pay, Karen lost it and started badmouthing me to the whole neighborhood, calling me "heartless" and a "terrible person." I've since filed a lawsuit against her for the cost of the koi, the damage to my filtration system, and repairs to my pond- over $5,000 in total.

    iamuniversol NTA. She's an irresponsible parent and should not be allowing her 8 year old to trespass into others yards. with supervision. You should absolutely be suing her for the damages to your property. She's insane to demand you pay for her son's medical bills, it was her duty to protect her child.
